I am a sneakerhead episode 9 - @Yukigraphics

I got into sneakers when I was in School started with a pair of Adidas 35th anniversary and a few other Nike Dunk SB, Airforce 1 and Dunk hi. Even though I didn’t have much money, I would save up my weekly allowance and my pay from part-time job to obtain those sneakers that I wanted.

I have been into sneakers since Junior High school to High School so should be around 12-15 years. There was time when I went to University and didn’t have money to buy new shoes so I technically stopped having interest in them. Once I got back to Japan, I again started having interests in sneakers. First pair that actually got me fully back into the game is the Asics Gel Lyte 3 x Ronnie Fieg “KFE”. It was a coincident where I was looking for a pair of gold shoes, either Nike Airmax 1, Asics Gel Lyte 3 or Bape Roadsta.

I’m a graphic designer and I use the sneakers everyday so it is technically part of my uniform. It’s like businessmen will have a few suits that they will wear to work. But for me, I have a few pairs of sneakers that I wear to work. Each pairs got its own ideas and personality. They each got their own background, history and concept behind the shoes which is basically the same way as graphics designers works. What I love most about sneakers is they are simply just comfortable to wear.

I cannot pinpoint which pair i like the most just because each brand is different but if I have to choose from my favourite brand, Asics and Diadora, my favourite pair from Diadora would be the Diadora x Limitedition “Castellers”. The colourway, material, concept, history and the execution was superb. Easy to wear and goes well with a lot of clothes I own. Amy favourite pair from Asics would be “Asics Gel Lyte 3 - Made in Japan” - the fact that it was made in japan and hand-crafted in Japan with the use of premium vegetable tan leather. The shoe hanged colour from getting in contact with sun light and humidity which is great because it shows the age of the shoes and it will look great as the time passes. there aren’t many shoes that actually age as you wear them other than leather shoes.

I started #Teamtokyo which is a little group of 4 sneakers lovers from different places around the world which happens to live in Tokyo. we gather at most releases and help each other to get pairs that we are aiming for. Maybe some of us are not interested in that pair but we will help each other get a pair at least. There are many teams like that around the world and we do try and help each other out for retail price which connects these sneaker lovers around the world. I believe making more friends than enemies. I would rather give people sneakers for retail and they will be more willing to talk to you in the future and have that bonding more than just a on-off transaction which I am not a biggest fan of.
