I am a sneakerhead episode 77 - @Jay__mac
What’s going on guys?! My name is Jimmy Mac and I am from New Jersey in the United States. I live in a small town but it is definitely convenient to be so close to New York and the city life. Being in such close proximity to a huge city like New York could be related to why I had gotten into sneakers so early in my life. Now that I think about it, it is pretty crazy how long I have been in the “game,” but I have formed many great relationships and have had amazing experiences because of it. The first pair of shoes that were not a general release that I purchased were the Nike Doernbecher Air Max 95, an AM95 that was designed by a young kid named Daniel Bair back in 2011. The Doernbecher series is an incredible line and the shoes are accompanied by great stories about children fighting their way through diseases and sicknesses, so if you are not familiar with the series, I highly recommend checking it out! Anyways, this particular pair was quite limited, and essentially introduced me to the world of “limited edition” or collaboration sneakers. After this time, I had gotten into Air Jordans, but that was definitely short lived because it didn’t take much time to recognize that the quality of runners were much better, the inspiration behind specific pairs was interesting and generally the price point was more affordable. When I attended SneakerCon NYC a couple years back, I acquired my first Ronnie Fieg x Asics collaboration, which were the Neptune Gel Sagas. From that point on, I was completely taken by the entire community and sneaker culture on social media such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Based on the fact that I thoroughly enjoy being different and wearing things that most people would not, Asics and other runner collaborations were the perfect choice for me when keeping quality and comfort in mind. If I were to gauge how long I have been into sneakers based on the Doernbecher AM95s, I would say for about 4 to 5 years. After all of this time, I could definitely say that there are many things that I enjoy about sneakers and the culture attached to them. Personally, I love the aspect of sharing your personal preferences in artistic ways on social media. I am an avid Instagram user, and I think it is awesome seeing other individuals from all around the globe taking breathtaking pictures, some with themes and others not, and sharing them amongst the entire community. Whether the pictures are taken with a DSLR or an iPhone, I believe they are unique and fascinating. Through viewing these pictures and sharing a love for photography and sneakers with others, I have made many friends, some that I have even had the opportunity to meet. I have become friends with others in the United States, and even places as far as Switzerland, Germany and Japan. Now to move on to the pairs of sneakers that I like the most.. there are MANY. I am a huge runner guy so typically Asics, New Balance, Puma, Adidas & Diadora are in my rotation. My favorite brand is Asics, and my favorite model of shoes is definitely the Gel Lyte III. You’ll notice that most of my favorite pairs are runner collaborations with Ronnie Fieg and Kith. In the runner community, I believe that the quality of Ronnie Fieg collaborations are usually better than most, and they are unique in form and inspiration. In my personal collection, it will be very hard to narrow down which pairs I like the most but I will attempt to make a top 6. They will be in no particular order because that would be way too hard lol. Here’s my best shot:
1) Asics x Ronnie Fieg “Super Green” Gel Lyte III
2) Asics x Ronnie Fieg “Volcano” Gel Lyte V
3) Asics x Ronnie Fieg “Flamingo” Gel Lyte III
4) Diadora x Ronnie Fieg “Primo” RF7000
5) Puma x Ronnie Fieg “Cove” OG Disc Blaze
6) Asics x Ronnie Fieg “Mint Leaf” Gel Lyte III
