Behind the pair - Episode XIV

We are a collective founded by Brandley, based in UK, Germany and Canada. While growing up, he was always inspired by their background, being Congolese. Last year, they felt that an external element could help bring some added perspective to the team. Brandley was lead to bring in Kevin as the footwear designer all the way from Canada. He had a similar vision being influenced by the diversity of cultural communities in Winnipeg, as well as by his own background being Filipino. In addition to his unique set of influences, Kevin is a Pensole Alumni. D'wayne Edwards, former and first African American Global Design Director at Jordan Brand, mentored him. There, he competed for the design competition in Portland, the heart of footwear in America.

Coming off their first appearance at the Capsule Paris men's show, they are strapped with a first season of sneakers set to release online this month.

The footwear line consists of Italian calf leathers and soles all hand crafted with care by a family owned factory in Portugal. This particular season of sneakers are all named in Swahili by purpose, reflecting the roots of the founder's vision and the purpose of the styles.

The signature stamp logo, which can be seen on some styles, illustrates nefertiti an ancient queen of egypt, representing timeless

The Mosi, meaning first creation, is our ultra low top model. Holding a distinct style, they feature snakeskin patterned patent leather straps representing the Egyptian Cobra.

Our designs evolve under the notion that great design is as little design as possible. Minimalism inspired by Japanese culture, another addition to the eclectic story.

The essential series takes this notion a step further, just focusing on premium materials and smooth silhouettes. Some models feature accent d-ring eyelets that symbolize the connection and union of all worldly cultures. The message is that all people are children of God, and by binding together the strength acquired is unfathomable.

Behind the pair - KangaROOS x Sapato Store x documenta 14 present “D14“

This behind the pair episode is a really special episode for me.

I was born and raised in Kassel, a town with nearly 200.000 residents right in the middle of Germany. Kassel is not only my hometown, it’s the hometown of my friends Josh and Joe, who are the founders and owners of Sapato Store and the creators of the “D14“. Furthermore, Kassel is internationally known for the documenta, world’s most significant exhibition of art, which takes place this year for the 14th time.

The Sapato-guys decided to combine sneakers and art as homage to our hometown, the documenta and the interest for sneakers we all share. KangaROOS, well known for their high quality, hand-“made in Germany“ sneakers were the perfect partner for this project. Both, Sapato and KangaROOS, decided that their collaboration had to more than just a nice pair of shoes, it should be a wearable piece of art.

Really special is the fact, that the “D14“ is not just a standard sneaker, it’s a hybrid of the Coil R-1 and Ultimate. Material wise KangaROOS and Sapato chose high quality calf velour. The mudguard and heel carry structured grain. The midsole has a light rosé color, the outsole has a icy turquoise color. The lining is made of calf leather aswell while the insole is made of goatskin, what makes the pair even more comfortable to wear.

The off-white high quality upper combined with the rosé midsole and turquoise outsole gives the “D14“ its unique look and really makes them a piece of art. KangaROOS and Sapato did a superb job on their first collaborative effort and, as usual, the “made in Germany“-quality is outstanding

I’m really happy I got the chance to have a look at the “D14“ before its release and I could take some exclusive photos for Epsilon Magazine.

If you get the chance to buy a pair, you really should do!

Congratulations Sapato to your first collaboration with a sneaker brand and for making it an absolute banger!

From Kassel to the world…

Behind the pair - Episode IV

@Guigan713 tells the story of how he got his hands on what he believes is one of the greatest Asics collaborations ever made - the Bread & Butter Berlin x Asics GT2

In 2009, the Bread & Butter Berlin x Asics GT2 was released. I found them in a shop in Barcelona, but they were for display only. I missed the release some days after, and ever since I had been trying to hunt them down. It took me six years to find them in my size. One day I found them on eBay for a decent price. Allelujah for one of my favorite pairs and maybe one of the top 10 Asics collaborations ever made.

Behind the pair - Episode III

@Pinnitoriginals brings you a closer look at the Nike Air Max Plus TN 360 – University Blue / True Yellow / Black / White:

As far as I am concerned, this is one of the best hybrids ever made. Both the Air Max Plus TN and the OG AM 360 are stunners in and of themselves, but melted together…..well, just look at it. Two pairs were released in 2008 as Footlocker USA exclusives featuring the two OG colorways of the OG Plus TN, Hyper Blue, and Tiger. What makes them so special for me personally is the fact that these feature the colors of my hometown soccer club. By the way, these are really hard to come by, so I’m still looking for the Tiger one in a US 9 😉

Behind the pair - Episode II

Second episode in our new series is brought to you by the mastermind @Ryustyler

First released in 2013 as part of a cotton-candy themed 3-pack, the "Play Cloths" joint were the first Saucony pair that caught my eye. The initial attraction was the "Blue Dream" colorway, a vibrant shade of blue that covered the entire upper, but what really sealed the deal for me was the tasteful starry perforation detailing used on the toebox.

Fun Fact: The thirst for these were so real that some boutiques capitalized on the hype and forced patrons to purchase the entire pack. My eyes were set on just the blue pair so I paid resell for them. Well worth it too.

Behind the pair - Episode I

Every Sunday, a team member will go in depth with one of his favorite pairs. First up, we have our founder @Olivaah397 telling a bit about his Feature x Diadora N.9000 "Pistachio"

In my opinion, this is one of the best summer pairs ever released, Feature did a great job on this N.9000!

Released last year, along with its sister pair - the "Strawberry", Las Vegas-based Feature gave their best shot of a fresh summer package.

both pairs contain a smooth leather base on top of a sprinkled midsole. I was lucky enough to grab them with a 40% discount, maybe you are able to find them under retail as well.
